January 9: 33 run in an icy Kanter Handicap Race at Heelands

ByMick Bromilow

On a cold and frosty evening, 33 runners, just shy of the biggest turnout so far (35), braved the icy conditions to run the January Kanter Handicap Race. There was a return to form for last year’s series winner, Harry Stiles, as he was more than a minute quicker than he has previously run this winter. Starting first, he held off all challenges.

Despite the cold there were 12 new personal bests, including two newcomers, Elliot Armitage and Gabor Banfai and 21 runners finished ahead of their expected time.

The fastest male times of the day were by Lloyd Cross (14:12), Gary Prysbet (14:19) and Seb Steel (14:29), and the fastest female times were by Alex Knowles (17:04), Hannah Lloyd-Knibbs (17:44) and Debra Brent (18:29).

The next event is on Tuesday 13 February for a pre-Valentine Day Kanter
