February 17: Four Gold medals for MMK at the British Masters Indoor Championships

Six MMK athletes were in action at the British Masters’ Championships at Lee Valley.
In the 200m, M40 Daniel Halapciuc (pictured top) set a new Romanian National M40 record and a Club Masters Indoor Record of 23.65 to win the race by 0.01 seconds. However, as a Romanian, he was not able to claim the British title.
For Paul Canning it worked the other way as he was beaten into second place by Polish athlete, Boguslaw Zelechowski, but claimed the British title. Paul went on to win the Silver Medal in the Triple Jump.
Darren O’Leary’s 200m time equalled his outdoor best time.
Having set a new personal best of 2.70m in the Pole Vault last week, to win the Eastern Vets title, George Gavriel found that 2.50m was sufficient to win the British M40 title.
On the second day there were more medals, with John Browne winning the M70 60m and Paul Canning and Darren O’Leary (pictured above) finishing third and fourth behind Boguslaw Zelechowski in the M55 60m. Daniel Halapciuc was third across the line in the M40 60m.
