MMK athletes fought for points in the first National Athletics League fixture of the season at Nottingham. The small size of the team masked a determination to cover the minimum 36 events required by the rules. The only winner on the day was Rebecca Chivers in the Javelin, but the fourteen members of the team covered 39 events, scoring 239 points. Daniel Lui, who turned up for his first training session in three years, just four days earlier, covered three events and a relay.

The next meeting will be at Trafford on Saturday, where members of the team will have the option to go up on the Friday to stay in Manchester. With a stronger team, we could definitely finish ahead of Bedford and challenge Liverpool.
