May 9: Zak Freeland finished 11th in the 1500m Final at the Atlantic Sun Conference Championships
Zak Freeland, representing Queen’s University of Charlotte, North Carolina, competed in the ASUN Championships at Conway, Arkansas. He ran in the first of two heats of the 1500m, with the first four and four fastest losers qualifying for Saturday’s Final. For the first three laps he was tucked in behind the four leaders, moving into fourth place with a 59.2 final lap.
The Final turned out to be a rather tactical affair after 46.7 seconds for the first 300m, followed by two laps of 62.3 to reach the bell 11th, but just 1 second behind the leader. The inevitable last lap burn-up caused problems for Zak as he fell away in 65.9.
Following the tactical 1500m Final, Zak elected to run the 5000m, where he cover the first 3000m in 8:59.56 and with the help of a 62.7 second final lap, slipped under 15 minutes to knock almost 90 seconds from his best time set last year
